Thomas Markle is not exactly a proud dad at this point in time. And according to him, it’s all based on the feedback (or lack thereof) that he’s getting from his daughter and his son-in-law.

Meghan Markle’s father is always available to air his opinion on matters that have to do with the Duchess of Sussex. Since his daughter became linked to royalty, Thomas has revealed quite a bit to the press. And when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they were resigning from being senior royals, he had words to share as well.

While sharing his opinion with US Weekly, Thomas stated that he was "simply disappointed" in the situation.

This wasn’t the only time Thomas weighed in on Harry and Meghan’s decision. While on the Channel 5 documentary titled Thomas Markle: My Story, the Duchess’ dad said he wasn’t too optimistic that Meghan would reach out to him especially now that she was spending most of her time in Canada.

Reconnecting with Meghan

During a recent interview on Good Morning Britain, Thomas Markle revealed more about his estranged relationship with his daughter and how he had hoped to repair things between them.

He said that he didn’t think there was any other way to reach his daughter as he felt granting these interviews and telling his story were his only options.

‘I’ve spoken and sent letters to Doria [the mother of the Duchess of Sussex] to get to Meghan – and that hasn’t happened as well. So no, I’m at their mercy.’

Thomas went on to add that this was the only way he could think of to get Meghan and Harry’s attention.

Not many people agreed with the 75-year-old as they felt like his reasons for granting interviews had nothing to do with reaching his child.

Some opined that he had some ulterior motives mainly something to do with earning money, fame or both. The commenters said his behavior just wasn’t that of a loving father.

This is about money. Listen to what he stated. He will use the Markle name but he can also use the Sussex name as he is linked. Giving a deadline of 30 days before he does another round of interviews sums this man up. As a parent would never us my kids in this manner

Meghan Markle’s father also said, during the interview, that he didn’t believe his daughter was in any way bullied by the press as most people are claiming.

‘I don’t think that she is being bullied in any way or any shape because of racism.’

How things fell apart

Here are a few points to know.

• Before the 2018 royal wedding, Thomas invited some backlash after it was revealed that he faked some photos for the sole purpose of getting media attention.
• Initially, he seemed proud of Meghan and was excited to walk her down the aisle but he couldn’t make it to the wedding as he was reported to have experienced a heart episode.
• Shortly after the big event, he expressed his regret that he was unable to walk his daughter down the aisle.
• Things appeared to have gone downhill from then as, in subsequent interviews given by both he and Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha, it was implied that the Duchess cut her dad and other members of the family out of her life.
