Even though we know a lot about Prince Charles’ dynasty, there is hardly any public information about the relatives of his deceased wife. Diana was born in the noble Spencers family, whose representatives were counts, dukes, and barons.

Her father, John Spencer, owned a title Viscount Althorp for quite a long time until in 1975 he received a new title – Count as well as a place in the House of Lords. After studying at the Eton, Royal Military and Royal Economic Colleges, the young man entered the service in the Scottish regiment of Greeks, and also took part in the Second World War, fighting for Britain. John got married to his first wife and mother of his five children, Francis Ruth Roche, on June 1, 1954. Queen Elizabeth attended the ceremony in Westminster Abbey personally, as the Spencers were distant relatives of the Windsors.
Diana was born on July 1, 1961. She spent her childhood in Sandringham, where her parents rented one of the mansions. The princes Edward and Andrew were frequent guests in the Spencers’ house. Despite such noble neighborhood, the princess’ early years were quite ordinary. She spent a lot of time outdoors, loved to play with animals and climb trees.
Her parents divorced when she was eight. She immediately shrunk into herself and stopped communicating with her classmates. Her school performance deteriorated, and her father’s second marriage only made the things worse. Diana dreamt of marrying a huge love and constantly repeated she would never destroy her own family. That was seven years before the wedding with Prince Charles.
Diana’s marriage with the heir to the throne made people remember Earl Spencer as a serious adult man. His resemblance with the bride could have been noticed only in certain facial features and expressions.
However, the two actually bear much more in common. Recently, Diana’s brother Charles, who became the 9th Earl Spencer after his father’s death in 1992, posted a photo from the family archive on social networks. With the help of modern coloring possibilities, the public could notice that Diana inherited not only a few facial features from her dad but also the piercing look of his gullible blue eyes.
Thanks so much @marinamaral2 for turning one of my favourite black and white pictures of my father into this beautiful colour image. Can’t wait to meet you at @AlthorpLitFest in October – and many congratulations on your #ColourofTime bestseller with @dgjones pic.twitter.com/uUv6MNx7zo
