Unconventional Love Story Of Brigitte And Emmanuel Macron

The love story of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and his wife, Brigitte, is rather peculiar. When the 39-year-old Macron won the Presidential election in May 2017, there was a lot of buzz around the age issue. But it wasn’t the fact of Macron being the youngest President in the country’s history they were talking about. What truly impressed everyone was the age gap Emmanuel has with his wife Brigitte – she is 24 years senior him.

A romantic beginning
Emmanuel Macron met his future wife, Brigitte Trogneux, when he was only 15 years old. At the time, the woman was married, had three kids, and was working at the school as a drama teacher. The exact time when their romantic story began remains a mystery. However, by the time the 17-year-old Macron was leaving the school in Amiens, he seemed to already decide everything for himself and promised Brigitte that one day, he would marry her.

And it turned out that the future First Lady of France was not left unaffected by the young man. In an interview with Paris Match, she admitted that falling in love with Macron was irresistible.
Love took everything in its path and led me to divorce. It was impossible to resist him.
But it took more than a decade before their unconventional love story could get its happy continuation. In 2006, Trogneux divorced her husband André-Louis Auzière and a year later, exchanged her vows with the future President of France.

Having an age gap of over 20 years is not an issue
The age difference between Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Trogneux puzzled many people. However, the history knows the stories of happy marriages with an even more impressive age gap. The only difference is that usually, it is the husband who is older and not the wife.
For instance, the 45th President of the U.S., Donald Trump, and his latest wife, Melania, have the exact same age gap of 24 years and nobody seems to be surprised by the fact.

In an interview with Le Parisien, Macron addressed their age difference by saying that no one would have questioned the legitimacy of their relationship if he was older than his wife.
It’s only because my wife is 20 years older than me that people say it’s not tenable.
Some people were even suggesting that Macron was a gay and his marriage to Brigitte was just a charade. But when you look at these two, it is obvious just how much they are in love with each other.

Macron even said once that while they “don’t have a classic family,” there is “no less love” in it than in any conventional union.
And they don’t seem to bother with the media paying so much attention to their marriage. On the contrary, Emmanuel and Brigitte gladly pose for the photos and talks to journalists. And on most of these pictures, the loving spouses hold hands and smile wide like happy newlyweds.
