Having good old friends is a pretty positive sign that you’re surrounding yourself with the social connection and support you need. However, friendships like this don’t happen magically.

If you want this type of connection, you have to recognize its potential from the beginning. According to ProjectBoldLife, true signs of a lasting friendship include being able to be yourself around your friends, they show love and support, being thoughtful comes easily, and you all exude positive energy when you’re around each other.

However, even when all these are available, keeping a friendship going also isn’t automatic. You have to work at it. And according to MindMovies, such things as making time for each other, supporting and listening to one another are some of the things friends need to do.

And we have a feeling these two best friends have done a fantastic job of this, which is why they remain as close as ever after so many decades.

The story of a lasting friendship

Two old friends, Olive Woodward and Kathleen Saville hit it off instantly when they were only 11 years old and they still remain close even at the age of 89.

The besties of 78 years not only found time for each other, they actually now stayed in the same care home.

When Kathleen moved to a care home, Olive, who lived at Berry Hill Park in England, missed her best friend terribly. She then wondered what was stopping her from moving into the facility with her BFF.

Then I thought, ‘Why don’t I move in too?’ If I’m unhappy or in trouble, I only have to go to Kathleen and we’ll always end up laughing.

Since they began living together, it had been an absolute blast. Kathleen gushed to BBC:

I’m so glad Olive is here now, we’re like giggling school girls and we still put on our lippy and get dressed up. We always say to each other, ‘If you’ve got it, flaunt it.’

These two old friends planned to keep their connection going even after death do them part. Kathleen said:

If Olive goes first, she’ll come back to fetch me. We’re going to be friends in heaven.

People are touched

The story of these ladies has warmed the hearts of many people, some of whom shared their own goals of holding the hands of their besties until the very end.

Friendship isn’t always easy to come by or keep going. But when you find true friends, it’s important to hold on to them for as long as possible. And these women show that even though this means moving in with them for the rest of your lives, it’s usually worth it.
