“The Crown” Star Helena Bonham Carter Asked Prince William To Be Godfather Of Her Child: "It Didn't Work Out"
Helena Bonham Carter from The Crown has had quite a lot if turns in life, just like the character she so brilliantly portrays. The 53-year-old met American director, Tim Burton, in 2001 and the two started their long professional and romantic relationship.
The couple stayed together for 13 years before they announced their amicable separation. Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter have 2 children together: son Billy and daughter Nell.
As it turns out, Helena Bonham Carter’s daughter could have had a very royal godfather!
Helena Bonham Carter would do anything for her kids
Godparents are usually chosen among very close friends or family members but the Harry Potter star decided to go straight to the royal family.

She confirmed to Andy Cohen during his show Watch What Happens Live a rumor made by a fan, admitting that she once asked no one other than Prince William himself to be a godfather to her daughter.

The year was 2007. The pair were both holidaying in the Caribbean. Carter admitted that she required some liquid courage to talk the heir to the throne, who as she said was quite “jolly” then. She recalled:
I’d spent all my friends as godparents on my first child, so Billy had 11 godparents. And so I thought I could make up for Nell […] thought if I give her Prince William then that would cover it.

But then-25-year-old Prince was not ready for such responsibility so he denied the request as polite as possible. Helena concluded:
He just said, ‘You don’t want me to be godfather to your child.’ And I left and obviously it didn’t work out… funnily enough.
However, Carter has some connection to the royal family so she wasn’t completely out of line. Her uncle once dated Princess Margaret – the royal Helena got to the chance to play on The Crown.
Maybe that’s why she is so good at playing the Queen’s younger sister as she not only met her herself but also is related to people who knew the royal very well.
