Princess Diana’s cooking skills were hazardous. Nope, we aren’t the ones making this claim, it’s her chef Darren McGrady.

He served as a personal chef to Queen Elizabeth II since 1982. From 1993 to 1997, his loyalty was assigned to Prince & Princess of Wales and their heirs, William & Harry.

Currently, the Royal chef works as an event planner, culinary consultant, and public speaker in Dallas, Texas. He penned the cookbook titled Eating Royally; Recipes and Remembrances from a Palace Kitchen which is now in 6th print. All of Darren’s royalties are donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation.

Royal cooking blunders

Speaking on The Morning Show of 7 News, Mr. McGrady affectionately recalled an incident that involved Princess Diana. He used to prepare batches for the weekend as the Lady of House Clarence was no good in the kitchen. He abruptly remarked:

The Princess was the worst cook.

Darren recollected that once Diana had friends over on weekend. She cooked pasta with tomato sauce for them. When she fled the pantry, the Princess left the pilot light on. The gas got accumulated and the Royal fire brigade had to be reached.

On Monday, McGrady was informed of the whole mishap by Diana herself. He narrates her hilarious words:

Darren, you won’t believe what happened to me. I nearly set the kitchen on fire. But the best part was, I had 12 hunky firemen to myself.

Additional insight

Darren McGrady was very close to Princess Diana. He knew what or who she would’ve liked. The chef revealed to Hello! that Lady D would’ve loved Meghan Markle. It’s not only because of philanthropy but, also, her dressing sense. Prince Harry and Prince William’s mother was fond of fashionable attires.

No one can ace it all, nor could Diana. Her taste of finer things was enough and that’s why she didn’t need to hone her cooking skills. Share this if you still miss the People’s Princess.
