Is It Over For Meredith Grey? Ellen Pompeo Hints She May Be Leaving Grey's Anatomy Sooner Than We Think

Grey’s Anatomy fans may have a big shock coming if Ellen Pompeo’s recent interview is to be considered. After running for 14 seasons, the TV drama is one of the most popular series on the air right now. But it may all be coming to an end sooner than we expect.

"I’m excited to do something new"

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Pompeo said that she wouldn’t mind making a change at this point in her life.

I’m really excited to do some new things, it’s about time that I mix it up and I’m really excited about my producing career.

She confirmed that she will like to do something different. In addition, as a mom, she wants to spend more time with her children. Not wanting to be an ‘absentee mom’ she wants to ensure she’s there for them in their teenage years.

While her interview could imply she was leaving the show, it’s also possible she meant Grey’s Anatomy will be coming to an end. Pompeo explained that she feels they have told most of the stories they can possibly tell and she also mentioned "finishing out the show" with executive producer Krista Vernon.

Pompeo’s contract runs through to the end of season 16 which will be in 2020. So, rest assured, we still have a couple more seasons with her (or of the show) left. She did state that nothing was confirmed yet and her words shouldn’t serve as a "formal announcement."

Yay or nay on the show coming to an end

While many fans were not thrilled with the news of the tv show coming to an end, some felt Pompeo was right. There are not a lot more stories to tell and it may be a good idea for them to leave while they are still going strong.

Whether or not you believe it’s time for Greys Anatomy to come to an end, there is sure to be a void on TV where this amazing show once was.

Saying goodbye to another cast

We think by now GA fans are used to saying goodbye to beloved cast members. Since the show began, many actors have either been fired or they voluntarily left.

In the previous season, for instance, Sarah Drew (who played April Kepner) was let go. She told Hollywood Reporter that it was due to the fact that there were too many characters.
