Penny became a household name owing to her role in the long-running sitcom Laverne & Shirley. But Marshall was much more than just an actress. She directed several episodes of the show and proved she’s great behind the camera, with such acclaimed movies as Big (1988), Awakenings (1990), and A League Of Their Own (1992).
The news of Penny’s passing hurt many people, but one of them was especially devastated to realize she was gone.
A loving tribute from an ex-husband
Famous director and actor Rob Reiner, who was Penny Marshall’s second husband, was absolutely heartbroken about her death and took to Twitter to express his grief.
So sad about Penny.

At first, he barely had any words, but then he shared his warm memories about his beloved former wife. We just can feel the pain behind his tribute.
I loved Penny. I grew up with her. She was born with a great gift. She was born with a funnybone and the instinct of how to use it. I was very lucky to have lived with her and her funnybone. I will miss her.

Even though Reiner and Marshall divorced in 1981 after 10 years of marriage, they remained friends and supported each other professionally.

Interestingly, Penny never remarried after her split with Rob. However, the two did share a daughter, Tracy, who was Marshall’s child from her first marriage and whom Reiner adopted. Tracy also has Rob’s last name.
Our thoughts go out to Rob and Tracy during these difficult times.
