From Wet Towels To Ice Cubes: 7 Useful Tips To Keep Your Dog Cool And Happy In Hot Weather
25 K
It’s summertime, which means dogs are now at high risk of suffering from heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Unlike humans, they don’t sweat, so they have to pant to cool themselves. But when it’s too hot, panting has little effect, leading to overheats.
As a result, our furry friends become weak and can even collapse or have seizures. So what can be done to prevent this and make sure pooches remain happy?

1. Make sure your dog drinks enough cool water.
When it’s hot, it may be problematic to ensure the pooch has access to fresh water. So it’s necessary to change it more often, adding a few ice cubes to the bowl to keep it cool for longer.
2. Don’t walk your dog in hot weather.

Instead, avoid peak temperatures and go for a walk during the cooler part of the day, such as late evening or early morning. Look for a shady place, and don’t expose your pet to the sun.
3. Take care of the pooch’s paw pads.
If you decide to walk your dog, check the pavements for hotness with your bare feet or hands. If you can’t keep them on the ground for more than 3-5 seconds, it’s too hot for your furry friend.

4. Protect the dog with a sun cream.
Apply it to the parts that are exposed, such as ears and nose. This may help prevent a sunburn.
5. Damp towels are another solution!
Just wet some towels for your pooch to lie on. This trick will keep your dog cool.

6. Don’t leave the pet in the hot car!
It’s better to avoid getting your dog in the car in hot weather. And even if you do, take your pet with you whenever you leave the vehicle.
7. Don’t forget about grooming.
Even if your dog has a short coat, it’s better to groom it to keep your pet comfortable in summer.
