Eternal Pain: Christian Rapper TobyMac Sings About His Pain Over Losing His Son In An Emotional Song

TobyMac’s son, Truett, died at a very young age on October 13, 2019: the boy was only 21 years old. The family was left devastated and heartbroken as the promising musician’s life ended out of the blue sky. No cause of death has been announced, but 911 got a call about the cardiac arrest at the time of passing.

TobyMac hasn’t stopped paying tributes to his flesh and bone. In particular, McKeehan once described Truett’s soft spot for God, a grand personality, positive energy, and an abundant mindset. Losing both a son and a best friend has been heart-wrenching for the singer, but he knows for sure: his 21-year-old son left the world, having made his parents proud of him.

TobyMac’s new song

Sometimes, the best way to grieve is to put all the feelings and emotions on paper. In the rapper’s case, he wrote a beautiful song titled 21 Years. The single was released on January 9, 2020 — several months after saying goodbye to Truett.

The 55-year-old sings about all his heartbreak after losing his firstborn child, wondering if he’s in a better place after a sudden passing.

Are you singing with the angels

Are you happy where you are

Well until this show is over

And you run into my arms

God has you in heaven

But I have you in my heart

Although Toby McKeehan still can’t fathom what has happened that diabolic night, he believes God has a plan for us all. The Lord did not promise us a life with only happiness but pain and hardships.

Writing this song felt like an honest confession of the questions, pain, anger, doubt, mercy, and promise that describes the journey I’m probably only beginning. The rest is yet to come.
