One of the most amazing things people have noticed is that the Jeopardy! host isn’t shutting himself off due to his health problems. In fact, since the world became aware of his disease, he has been spotted out and about a few times.

For example, PopCulture reported that the 79-year-old TV personality still went ahead with his annual Christmas party despite his health setback. He embraced the holiday cheer and spent time with his loved ones. Also, while still in the holiday spirit, he was reportedly spotted spending Christmas night with his wife, Jean Currivan Trebek, at an NBA game.

Even though his public appearance has greatly reduced following reports that his health is deteriorating, it’s actually a positive thing that he still makes time to spread and bask in the joy of the Yuletides.

On fear and courage

Due to Alex Trebek’s illness, he has been receiving praises from fans and loved ones alike who have congratulated him on his ability to remain so courageous throughout this ordeal. However, during a recent sit-down with ABC, he explained what that courage is really about.

Speaking on being diagnosed, he said:

I just look at it like, it’s part of life. Does that mean I’m courageous with it? No. I could be scared to death and I’d still have to deal with it. But I’m not scared to death. So, maybe I am courageous.

In the joint interview with Alex and his wife, Jean, the following topics were also discussed:

  • Jean admitted that it can be a challenge when Alex doesn’t follow doctor’s orders in terms of lifestyle change.
  • The TV host confessed that he isn’t always a good patient and may sometimes be difficult to deal with especially when he’s coping with depression and pain.
  • Alex appreciated how people have been dropping well-wishes since he announced his diagnosis. "My Gosh, it makes me feel so good," he said.
  • Jean noted that even if she would love for her husband to retire, she understands what a big role his job plays in his life.

Dealing with cancer really is a rollercoaster ordeal. No one can determine what the future holds and having to spend so much time worrying about it must be very difficult. But we have to applaud Alex’s approach to the whole thing. While he may not believe he’s being extraordinarily courageous, the fact that he is able to open up to the world does show bravery. In addition, having his wife by his side through the ups and down proves the strength of their marriage. All anyone can do now is to hope that the TV host keeps getting better and healthier.
