One of the biggest hair mistakes a mature woman can do is going way too dark and one-dimensional. As we get older, we think that we shouldn’t spend too much effort on our hair and just stick to one color. Wrong! It’s never too late to experiment, especially when it’s surprisingly easy to look younger with a few simple tricks.

Today, we want to look into swapping black hair for soft brown locks. You’ll be surprised how much of a difference a change like that can do.
From black swan into chocolate goddess
62-year-old Marilyn paid a visit to MAKEOVERGUY as she wanted to finally leave the 40 years of the same hairstyle and makeup behind and look her age (well, she ended up looking way younger).
Marilyn came in with plain black hair that made her look tired and quite rough. Christopher Hopkins decided to go a safe, but trusted route, and gave her a lightening makeover.
The woman received a very soft brown hair color with edgy shorter hair instead of her unruly curls. It instantly made her skin look brighter and her eyes started looking completely different! Do you notice they’ve become much more chocolaty?
Beautiful transformation once again, Christopher!
Tips to look younger for mature women
Hair isn’t the only thing that can take decades off your face. You achieve best results if you do a combination of things to spruce up your overall appearance.

Here’s what you can do:
- Don’t overdo it with black in your outfits. Although black can be very flattering for your figure, it tends to look too dreary, so make sure to add a bright accessory, it can be shoes, purse, scarf, whatever feels more you.
- Look into tailoring. Wearing baggy clothes feels safe, but can also make you look worse. Highlight your best features, for example choose a jacket that has the right length for your body and your waist will thank you.
- Don’t be afraid of prints. Someone stupid said that horizontal stripes are forbidden for larger women, don’t listen to that person! It all depends on clothing and your figure, so experiment with some prints.

- Choose the correct skirt length. Getting older doesn’t mean your skirt need to get longer. A midi skirt is always a good choice and looks way more sophisticated. Just make sure you choose matching shoes wisely!
- Find the perfect jeans. We know, it’s a tough mission, but at least don’t go for jeans that are too baggy. They won’t do anything good for your figure and you’ll only feel more insecure.
We want to leave you with the following: love yourself and don’t feel bound by your age. No time is good to start putting limits on your fashion choices. Just express yourself and be happy!
