Woman shares her inflammatory breast cancer story

One brave woman decided to share her breast cancer story to warn other women and save more lives. Once Jennifer Cordts noticed a rash on her breast. At first, she thought it was just irritation or sunburn. However, the rash didn’t go away, so she decided to visit a doctor. The doctor didn’t notice anything serious and told her that the bra was too small, and it caused irritation. Another doctor prescribed antibiotics to deal with inflammation. Unfortunately, nothing worked.

Jennifer developed pain in her breast, but the blood tests and mammogram showed no signs of cancer. That’s when she decided to take things into her own hands. She googled her unusual symptom, and the first thing that popped up was inflammatory breast cancer. The woman found out that her rash can indicate this rare type of cancer.

Aggressive cancer with almost no symptoms

Inflammatory breast cancer is one of the most aggressive types of breast cancer. It can quickly spread to lymph nodes, liver, bones. This was exactly Jennifer’s case. She was given only 3 to 5 years to live, as the woman was suffering from stage 4 cancer.

In most cases, inflammatory breast cancer doesn’t cause any symptoms. There’s no lump or mass to be palpated, and there’s nothing wrong on mammograms. And typically, the rash is the only early symptom. Another symptom is skin swelling on the breast, sometimes painful.

Moreover, inflammatory breast cancer can be mistaken for a breast infection or allergic reaction. That’s why, if the treatment doesn’t work, it is better to ask for a biopsy. Inflammatory breast cancer can be diagnosed by a skin biopsy.
