How much did Elijah Wood make on The Lord of the Rings?

The Lord of the Rings franchise has grossed nearly $3 billion at the worldwide box office, not to mention sales of DVDs, Blu-Rays, and various merchandise, which continue to sell like hot pies. Those movies are still relevant and loved today, and we don’t expect it to change any time soon.

Despite such a massive gross at the box office, you’d be surprised to know that the actors weren’t paid a lot in the beginning. Elijah Wood received only $250,000 for his appearance in all 3 films (!). Sounds like a lot of work for not that much money, at least according to Hollywood standards.

Currently, the actor’s net worth is estimated at $30 million, which is pretty good for an actor who’s doing one movie and couple of TV episodes a year tops. Elijah does, however, works actively as a producer on various projects.

We can also imagine it was helpful for Elijah to be asked to make a brief appearance in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to relieve the glory days. Oh, and he also received $1 million for a 2-minute performance in the film, that’s pretty good, don’t you think?

You might think we’re being hard on Elijah Wood’s career but we actually have a lot of respect for the guy. He managed to be smart with his money and never got celebrity-crazy.
