Rory Feek lost his wife and music partner, Joey to cervical cancer at the age of 40. Joey says he is still in love with her.

The singer’s late spouse was first diagnosed with cancer a few months after giving birth to their daughter. Joey went through an aggressive treatment plan including hysterectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation.

Preparing to become a single father

Rory and Joey’s marriage was blessed with a daughter, Indiana, who lives with Down syndrome. The singer is also a father to two grown daughters, Hopie and Heidi, from a previous marriage.

According to the singer, he said in the months leading up to her death, Joey made a decision to help prepare him to be a single father. Rory said:

She told me I’m going to push the baby away to make me greater in her life and her less because she knew it was going to be a transition. She had an understanding of the bigger picture.

Rory admitted that he wouldn’t have done that saying: "You get forever with her; I want all of it right now."

After her death, the country singer and his daughter developed a close bond that inspired him to write a children’s book called The Cow Said Neigh!
