In a hilarious twist, 89-year-old Agnès Varda was not present at the event. Well, she was but not in the traditional sense. Varda sent several cardboard cutouts of herself to the event. Each cutout was posed differently, thanks to street artist JR, her partner with whom she collaborated on the award-winning documentary, ‘Faces Places’.

Meryl Streep who was also at the event could hardly contain herself as JR did a pretty good job handling the cutouts.

And Meryl had a pretty good laugh that evening. Subsequently, Meryl joined JR in a celebratory shout. She was joined by Greta with a cutout-Agnès between them during the final group photo.

Agnès is well respected in France for her contributions to filmmaking. She has won several awards and commendations. Furthermore, historians also give Agnès credit for being instrumental to the rise of the French New Wave film movement.

Only two other people have come close to Meryl’s record, Katherine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson. Both have been nominated on 12 occasions.
In addition, Meryl was also nominated by the Golden Globes; however, she lost to Frances McDormand in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.
