We usually admire our favourite celebrities for a lot of reasons, and it’s not always about their talents. Sometimes, we simply appreciate them for what they do outside their actual jobs, and this includes their lives as parents. Lately, a number of celebs have chosen social media as the medium, through which they give fans a glimpse into their family lives.

A few days ago, Madonna shared a heartwarming picture of herself and her daughter, Lourdes, in honor of the girl’s 21st birthday.

The 59-year-old pop star posted a series of photos featuring Lourdes in Kenya, Cuba, and their home to let her daughter know that no matter where she is, she is always loved. Her combined captions on the photos and her overall message to her daughter read:

As Lourdes Leon reaches the legal drinking age in the United States, it could be interesting to take a look at how far she has come, including the unique relationship she had always had with her mom.

It all started when the pop star found out she was pregnant in 1996. If you think shaming just became a recent trend due to social media, think again, because at the time, the star was facing major backlash for daring to get pregnant.

While sitting with Oprah Winfrey a year later, expressing how difficult things were, the talk show host quoted a few words from Madonna’s diary where she had opened up about dealing with being pregnant in the public eye.

Madonna, however, did not let all the negativity affect her experience as a mother. She once said to Los Angeles Times, "my daughter’s birth was like a rebirth for me," adding that Lourdes (Lola at the time) made her excited about each day.

In 2003, Madonna and 7-year-old Lourdes co-wrote the book, The English Roses, and the singer said that it was one of the most meaningful times in her life.

After welcoming her son, Rocco, with then-husband, Guy Ritchie, Madonna was determined to build as much of a normal life as possible for them. Even though she continued to become even more popular, Madonna tried not to bring that sense of fame into her home.

As Lourdes grew up, she became interested in fashion and eventually began to forge a path in that world. After a brief career in modelling, she finally settled for running the Material Girl clothing line she co-owns with her mom.

As she clockes 21 this year, we are certain that this is only the starting point for Lourdes Leon, and we can look forward to many more impressive achievements by the beautiful young lady.
