Female friendships are often viewed as the most complex of all friendships for various reasons. Whether the picture is high school belles or classy wives, there always seems to be something flawed about them.

Many people believe that it is virtually impossible for women to actually be friends. The reason most disbelievers give is that sexuality and competition will forever remain obstacles.

Author Emily Witt in her New York essay suggests that social media and the need to keep up appearances also adds to the anxieties associated with female friendships.

Once upon a time, Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton were best of friends. Young Paris was in the new a lot and Kim was a very willing member of the dynamic duo.

The pair did have a lot in common. Both were children of really popular people, Paris the billionaire heiress, and Kim the daughter of lawyer, Robert Kardashian.

Then there were the insults. In 2008, Paris who was clearly upset with her diminishing fame is reported to have call Kim’s butt “gross”.

Paris even walked out of an interview with Good Morning America back in 2011 when the interviewer asked her a question about Kim. The pair hung out in 2014 at a party for Ricardo Tisci in Ibiza. But that is perhaps one of the few times they have been seen together in years.

It seems that female celebrities may find it harder keeping friends, and understandably so.

Some besties are still the exception.

Despite the jealousy and bickering that is a common sight, some celebrities are actually making their friendships work and defying stereotypes. Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox have been besties since they starred on Friends.
