Although Katharine was Sam’s first wife, Ross had previously been married, and not once.

Katharine Ross’ marriages that had to fail to make way for the lasting one.

Before settling down with Sam Elliott, Katharine Ross had been married four times. Her first husband was an actor Joel Fabiani. Their marriage lasted two years, from 1960 to 1962. Not long after her first divorce, Katharine married John Marion in 1994, but their union fell apart three years later.

Katharine’s role in the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) didn’t just bring her a BAFTA Award for Best Actress, but also her third husband, cinematographer Conrad L. Hall. The couple got married in 1969 and got divorced in 1973.

Two years later, Ross met her fourth husband, Gaetano Lisi, on the set of The Stepford Wives (1975). They tied the knot right away, but then separated in 1979.

Someone would think that after four failed marriages Katharine should’ve given up hope, but her story shows us that it’s still possible to find true love, even after many trials and errors.

There’s life after the divorce, and then some.

You might be surprised about how Katharine Ross stayed hopeful after being unsuccessfully married four times. Well, it has something to do with how women in general deal with divorce.

It was determined that women cope with divorce better than men, and even found themselves happy again after up to five years after separation. Research showed that it has to do with the way man and women deal with major life issues. Women proved to be more adaptable and prone to moving on.

So ladies, don’t give up if your first, or second, or even third marriage didn’t work out. There’s always a chance to be happy, as long as you stay strong and positive.
