She was not just a star

Gina Lollobrigida is an eminent actress of Hollywood, a Golden Globe award winner, played alongside other iconic actors like Rock Hudson and Alec Guinness, Humphrey Bogart and Frank Sinatra.

She was a star in the ‘50s and one of the few actresses who made it from Italy to Hollywood. She had an exclusive interview with Fidel Castro. This woman, surely, has so many stories to tell. She tried herself at photography while traveling around the world and seeing people on the streets, different cultures, and astonishingly beautiful places.

However, her real passion is sculpture. Gina dreams that people will remember her not only as an actress.

After all these years, Gina finally shares the story of her journey to Hollywood fame. It was Howard Hughes, the billionaire tycoon, who brought her to America. The actress claims that he was a bit obsessed with her. Maybe it is because she was different from other American actresses. Even her Italian accent turned out to be an advantage.

Her first film in America was with Frank Sinatra. “La Lollo,” tells that everybody was trying to fulfill her every desire just satisfy her.

Despite all the luxury and comfort she had in Hollywood, the actress decided to change things a little bit. She didn’t care about money at all, as she even turned down Howard Hughes’s marriage proposal.

Gina became a photojournalist. Her connections and fame helped her to get an exclusive interview with the man himself, Fidel Castro. However, the crew didn’t manage to take a single photo of him.

  1. In 1985, because of her achievements in photography and sculpture, she was nominated as an officer of Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by Jack Lang.
  2. In 1999, she was nominated Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
  3. She was awarded the National Italian American Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
  4. This year, 2018, she received her star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
