Baby Who Was Rejected From Modeling Agency Because Of Down Syndrome Became Popular And Landed Ad Campaign
Meet Asher Nash! This beautiful blue-eyed baby who has Down syndrome always attracts attention. Moreover, he loves posing in front of the camera, so his mother Meagan decided to send his pictures to a talent agency. Unfortunately, the sweet boy was rejected and the explanation made his mother furious. The baby was turned down because of his condition.
His brave mother made her mission to change the advertising industry and the boy is changing the face of beauty in advertising.
Each year, about 6,000 babies are born with Down syndrome, which is about 1 in every 700 babies born in the United States. The statistics show that in 1960, persons with Down syndrome lived to be about 10 years old. In 2007, on average, these people lived to be about 47 years old.
Nowadays, people born with Down syndrome can live full life just like the rest of us. They attend school, work and contribute to society in many wonderful ways. But how does it come that in the 21st century, there is still a place for double standards and prejudice?
Child with Down syndrome was rejected from a modeling agency
Meagan Nash is a proud mother of her adorable son, Asher. The boy was born with Down syndrome.
Asher is a smart and curious kid who keeps on discovering the world every single minute. Meagan decided to submit her son’s photos to a local modeling agency in Georgia, as she thought her boy had all chances to be featured in ad campaigns for various companies. But Nash was rejected.
When the mother heard the reason why the agency did not accept her son, she got angry. Meagan said the agency owner told her she should not submit Asher because the company “didn’t specify special needs”
The mother fights back
Meagan was not going to let it go so easily. She continued submitting her son to other castings. Finally, her attempts had success.
Asher was proposed to be a model for OshKosh B’Gosh. Meagan couldn’t believe it was true when the company’s manager contacted her and said they were looking forward to “changing the way their ads are so that they use babies with disabilities in the future.”
Finally, OshKosh B’Gosh decided to make Asher the new face for their toddler holiday collection
Little Asher became a real star! His pictures posted on different Facebook pages, including ‘Kids with Down Syndrome’, went viral. Meagan said:
I want people to be able to see my son or others like him in an ad and not instantly say, ‘Oh, he has Down Syndrome. I want them to say, ‘Oh I love that shirt that baby is wearing, I want that for my child!’
By the way, the owner of the company that rejected Asher then suddenly saw the boy’s perspective and agreed that Nash should submit him for the casting.
It looks like Asher has chances to become a real star in the future. Of course, he should thank his awesome mother for her hard work and persistence in following their dream. She proved to the rest of the world how amazing these children are and they shouldn’t be treated any different!
