9 Everyday Habits That Are Harmful To Your Skin And Cause Wrinkles To Form

Wrinkles are one of the first signs that give away a woman’s age. Actually, there are things that many of us do (or don’t do) that cause our skin to age prematurely. Wrinkles form naturally as we age, but some habits can speed up this process.

Here are a few things women do that cause wrinkles to appear earlier and look deeper:

1. Not getting enough sleep

Nighttime is the best time of day for your skin because that’s when it regenerates more actively. But when you aren’t getting enough shut-eye, you’re disrupting this important process. Chronic lack of sleep can cause wrinkles to form, among other negative consequences it has on your body.

Also, always remove makeup before going to bed to allow your skin to breathe.

2. Sleeping on your stomach or side

When you’re sleeping on your stomach or side (especially if you always choose the same side), your face is pressed against a pillow or mattress, which makes it wrinkled during sleep. Eventually, these wrinkles can start to become permanent.

3. Not drinking enough water

If you don’t drink enough water throughout the day, your body and skin become dehydrated. If your skin isn’t adequately hydrated, it becomes more susceptible to wrinkle formation.

4. Drinking too much alcohol

Drinking alcohol causes a faster loss of fluids, and that leaves your skin dehydrated and more prone to wrinkles.

5. Smoking

Over time, smoking leads to reduced blood flow to the skin, and your skin doesn’t get enough oxygen and nutrients to look healthy. Also, smoking causes skin discoloration.

6. Eating plenty of sugar and highly processed foods

Too much sugar and processed foods (such as fast food and pre-packaged meals) in your diet can prevent your skin from getting enough vitamins and other nutrients it needs to stay healthy and smooth.

7. Not wearing sunglasses

Forgetting to put on sunglasses before going out when the sun is shining can cause you to squint, and the more you squint, the more likely you are to get wrinkles around your eyes.

8. Not wearing sunscreen

Everyone enjoys basking in the warm sun, but many people fail to do one thing to make this highly enjoyable activity safer. Yes, we mean applying sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to protect the skin from sunburns, premature aging, and other, more serious problems.

9. Rubbing your eyes and other areas of your face

If your eyes are tired, rubbing them certainly won’t help. Instead, it can damage the delicate skin around your eyes and cause wrinkles if you do it often. You shouldn’t rub any area of your face too hard during activities such as washing your face or applying and removing makeup.
