As the daughter of daughter of an industrial designer, Barbara made a name for herself in Hollywood after achieving success. The Dallas star tied the knot twice in her life to 2 different men.
Her first marriage took place in 1944 when she wedded theatrical manager Carl Sawyer. Their union lasted for 7 years. Barbara married stage director Windsor Lewis the same year she divorced her first husband. Her second marriage appeared to be the longest union she had.

The iconic star retired from acting back in 1966 when her second husband became ill with cancer. She suspended her career to take care of Windsor after his diagnosis.
Sadly, Barbara’s husband passed away in 1972. By that time, she had been financially drained. The actress then joined the cast of Dallas in 1978 to make money after she had abandoned her career for about 10 years.
She won an Emmy Award two years later for best lead actress. After Windor’s passing, Barbra remained single.
When the famous show ended, she retired and lived by a lake writing children’s books and designing stationery.
Meanwhile, Barbara was survived by her 2 daughters from both her marriages. She died of lung cancer in 2005 at the age of 82 at her estate in Maine.
