Prince Harry is 33 years old, and he looks quite youthful. But there’s one detail in his appearance that may give away his age. What is it, you’re asking? A growing bald spot around his crown.

We don’t need to tell you that Prince William, who is 3 years older than his brother, has a more serious hair loss.

Here is Prince William in 2008:

Prince Charles, aged 69, also can’t boast of a full head of hair, like his sons.

Why did Harry and William start losing hair so early? According to experts, the royals share a very common problem with many other men around the world: male-pattern baldness.

Hair loss is a common problem, especially among males. According to WebMD, about 85% of men will experience some degree of hair loss in their lifetime. In about 95% of these cases, male-pattern baldness is to blame. About half of all men are affected by this type of hair loss by the time they reach age 50, according to the NHS.

The condition has a genetic component, which explains why all three royals mentioned in this article are losing their hair.

Is there anything that can be done to treat male-pattern baldness or at least prevent it from getting worse? Ken Kok, a consultant plastic surgeon from the Skin and Follicle Clinic in Birmingham, told Express.co.uk:

Early treatments for balding include medications like minoxidil or propecia and vitamin supplements like viviscal pro which are aimed at slowing hair loss.

Platelet rich plasma injections which make use of the high concentrations of growth factors in platelets can also help slow hair loss and improve hair growth.

Once hair loss has established and stabilized, then a hair transplant can be considered. The latest technological advance in this field is the use of the ARTAS robot which is able to harvest hair follicles with unparalleled accuracy.

We don’t know whether Charles, Harry, or William ever sought treatment for hair loss. What we do know is that they still look great, regardless of the amount of hair on their heads.
