Pope Francis Criticizes Donald Trump By Calling His Disturbing Immigration Policy 'Immoral'
President Donald Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policy has now officially been criticized by the Pope.
Pope Francis speaks the truth. When the "stranger" is among us, we must not repeat the sins of the past. We must resolve now to live as nobly & justly as possible. Building a nation means that we must constantly relate to others. We were all once foreigners. #KeepFamilesTogether pic.twitter.com/2ohzFxBITk

Widespread criticism
This follows widespread criticism from civil society, Republicans, Democrats, and top catholic bishops in the U.S. who were straightforward in their indictment. They called the policy immoral.

Pope Francis takes a stand
Now, the Pope is taking a strong stance against Trump as well.
A person’s dignity does not depend on them being a citizen, a migrant, or a refugee. Saving the life of someone fleeing war and poverty is an act of humanity. #WithRefugees @M_RSection

Earlier, he had shared a tweet against the policy, but on Sunday night, he told Reuters quite plainly that he was in support of his bishops in their criticism of Trump.
Let it be clear that in these things, I respect (the position of) the bishops conference, he said.
Does Trump care?
This puts further pressure on Trump to review the problematic policy that arrests and criminally prosecutes illegal migrants and separates them from their children indefinitely. But the president seems unperturbed by his unpopularity.
I’m not a religious man but I want to thank you Pope Francis for speaking out against this. I really hope your words make a difference.

Still, most Americans are certain that the Pope’s statement could make a big difference.
