Being a new parent almost always comes with sleepless nights. Oh, what some moms and dads wouldn’t do to get their little ones to sleep! One Massachusetts mom shared a trick she found online and uses to ensure her baby falls asleep fast.

What’s the trick? The woman places a latex glove filled with rice on her 2-month-old daughter’s back to trick her into thinking that mom is still there and it’s actually her hand. Abigail says this method works wonders.

Abigail’s post has garnered thousands of shares and comments, with some parents expressing their willingness to try it on their own kids, and others calling this method dangerous and irresponsible.

Some of those who have commented think this is a reasonable and safe method. Here are some of the supportive and encouraging comments:

But many parents are not convinced. Some parents noted that it’s dangerous to let babies sleep lying on the stomach, as this position may increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Also, some warned against placing any objects in a baby’s crib, as it may lead to suffocation.

Here’s doctors’ opinion: do NOT use this method. Babies should sleep lying on their backs, on a firm mattress, and without any objects in their cribs (to prevent asphyxia). Also, babies should only sleep in their cribs and not in their parents’ beds.

The hack you see in the post above may look appealing, and it may work for some, but it can put your baby’s life at risk. It’s best to use other tricks to put your little one to sleep, such as singing a lullaby or playing calm music.
