We do our best to keep our pets safe and sound. But even when we’ve created the perfect world for them at home, the call of nature still often beckons. Cats, for instance, may want to run outside for a variety of reasons. They are natural hunters with a strong drive to reproduce that’s why we can’t change this instinct. While some cats are less reluctant to break free, others do their best to escape.
One real-world example is Quilty, the cat, who lives in the Friends for Life Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas.
Shelter cat helped his feline comrades to escape
Quilty may seem a naughty cat to some, but to his feline friends, he’s a hero.
So what did he do?
Recently, the staff of the shelter found themselves embroiled in a mystery. More than once, they arrived at the shelter to find the senior cats free of their room and roaming the building.
“We would come in in the morning and have to collect all 15 of the cats who had had a blast during the night,”
– said Jennifer Hopkins, communications lead for Friends for Life.

After 3 nights of cat parties, the staff took to surveillance video to discover what was going on at night. Imagine their surprise when they discovered the same cat opening his fellow friend’s enclosures by jumping up and grabbing hold of the door handle, easily unlatching it in one swift movement.
