Comedian And Activist Barry Crimmins Has Died At 64 Due To Cancer

Comedian Barry Crimmins always preferred comfortable outfits and dad-shoes. None of the sharp suits and slick haircuts that younger comedians go for.

This, however, did nothing to diminish his comedic style. With Crimmins, anger was almost always a word away. On stage, he never held back from expressions his position on issues, especially politics. His comedy also took pot shots at the Catholic church.

In a world where most people stand on the politically correct side of the fence, Cummins was comfortable causing a stir. He was against the idea of bipartisanship in America. According to him, the American goes only one way. To the left or to the right.

Cummins grew up in a small town in upstate New York. In the 1980’s, he was particularly vocal about online child abuse and the Gulf War.

Passing after fight with cancer

Barry Crimmins has passed on due to cancer. Earlier in January, the comedian announced on Twitter that his diagnosis was grave. Still, his message had the vibrant spirit he is well known for.

The news of his death was broken on his Twitter handle yesterday by his wife, Hellen. It is a particularly hard time for the family as Helen is currently battling stage four non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Fans and friends pay their respects

The news of Barry’s death is shocking to many people, but his memory remains a cause for celebration. Fans, friends, and fellow celebrities have been sending in a steady stream of condolence messages and tributes to the late comedian.

His brand of comedy may not be extremely popular now.

He founded the Ding Ho comedy club in Boston in the 1980s.  Goldthwait, Patton Oswalt, and Marc Maron are some notable comedians who were coached by Barry. Our condolences go out to his family.
