What Is Prince Charles' Relationship With His Sons Really Like? A Few Reasons Why It May Not Be So Great

Prince Charles and his sons William and Harry seem to get along pretty well. This is the assumption you can make judging from their public appearances, but what happens behind closed doors remains a mystery.

There have been rumors that Prince Charles’ relationship with his sons is strained, and there are several reasons to believe they are true.

The hurt caused by Prince Charles’ infidelity to Princess Diana

Every child wants their parents to love each other, so it’s quite understandable that the young princes were hurt when they found out about their dad’s infidelity. After Prince Charles and Princess Diana divorced, William and Harry spent more time with their mom than with dad and they probably didn’t think much of the ‘other woman’ in their dad’s life.

Eventually, about a year after their mom’s tragic death, Prince William and his younger brother agreed to meet Camilla Parker-Bowles. It was reported that the meeting went well, but who knows how it really went down?

Prince Charles may be jealous of his sons’ popularity

It’s not a secret that Prince William and Prince Harry are much more popular than their dad. The younger royals are seen as more approachable – this is exactly what people like!

Writer Christopher Andersen told the Daily Beast:

People don’t fully realize the extent to which Charles is jealous of anyone who gets more attention than he does. Charles was incredibly jealous of Diana for swallowing up all the attention, and the fact that polls routinely show that two-thirds of Britons would rather have William and Kate as their king and queen than Charles and Camilla has always been a source of tension between the two camps.

Also, Prince Charles disapproves of what he sees as an excessive popularity of his sons. The two princes and their wives are known to call their staff by first names, and it’s just one of many things they do that causes Prince Charles to raise eyebrows.

What about William and Harry’s relationship with Camilla?

Contrary to what many people think, Prince William and Prince Harry seem to be on good terms with their stepmom, Duchess Camilla. Although they may have been confused at first when her relationship with their father became public, they soon grew to like her.

After Prince Charles and his long-time love Camilla got married, Prince Harry said in an interview with the BBC:

She’s a wonderful woman, and she’s made our father very, very happy, which is the most important thing. William and I love her to bits.
