After Seven Seasons, TV Show 'Once Upon A Time' Is Cancelled

Once Upon a Time follows the life of fairy-tale characters who were magically transferred into the real world by some very strong magic. On arrival, the characters had no memory of who they were in their other lives.

The series first appeared in October 2011 on ABC. Set in the fictional town of Sotorybrooke, Maine, the first six seasons had Emma Swan taking the lead. By season seven, the main location was changed to Hyperion Heights, another fictional neighborhood. It was situated in Seattle, Washington.

By 2013, the series gave birth to another series called Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, which lasted for just one season before getting yanked off air.

They are shutting down production

After just seven seasons, ABC is closing the show. The announcement was made on Tuesday this week in a statement delivered by the show’s creator and executive producer, Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis.

Seven years ago, we set out to create a show about hope, where even in the darkest of times, a happy ending would always be possible. But we never imagined the happy ending that was actually in store for all of us — years and years of adventure, romance, magic and hope.

Once Upon a Time played heavily on famous Disney characters but they were reimagined for more modern times. The magical adventures of these new characters were well loved by the millions of fans who watched the show.

Dashed hopes for a new season

The show experienced a sharp decline in rating when by the end of season six, Jennifer Morrison and Ginnifer Goodwin stopped being regulars. There was hope that the new season would revive following, but that did not happen. An average of 2.5 million views was recorded for the new season per show, an all-time low.

The final battle is approaching and they will need all the help they can get. #OnceUponATime

Earlier in January, ABC president Channing Dungey hinted at the possible end of the show. According to her, she was “cautiously optimistic” about a new season. But clearly, that is not going to happen.

Still, the show’s producers appreciate the love their fans have shown. They regret having to cancel the show but hope to keep the fan base going strong.
