Norway's Olympics Team Accidentally Orders 15,000 Eggs Instead Of 1,500. Could It Be Google Translate Fault?

The chefs for the Norway’s Olympics team had to face a major egg crisis at the Pyeongchang Games in South Korea when their grocery order got lost in translation.

Keeping a team of professional athletes fed and happy in the tough winter weather is not an easy thing to do. That’s why the Norwegians have a group of highly-skilled and well-trained chefs who have served faithfully for many Olympic games. These chefs are masters of their craft and top experts in the nutrition industry. They know what exactly the Norwegian Olympians need to feel nourished.

They do not, however, know any Korean. And what one does when he is in need of quick translation? That’s right, he turns for help to Google Translate, so the Norwegian chefs did when they were making their first big grocery order.

Little did they know that they were in for an eggy surprise. As it turned out, the chefs ordered 15000 eggs, instead of 1500. “We received half a truckload of eggs,” chef Stale Johansen told Norwegian news.

While many blame the Google translate, it’s unlikely that it was the main reason for such error. South Korea has a very complicated counting system, which uses different systems for different purposes.

Luckily, Johansen, who has a vast experience of cooking for the Norwegian Olympians, was able to see the bright side:

Fortunately, we were able to return most of it. But we were quite surprised when they came carrying the eggs. There was just no end to it. Incredible!

Well, if life gives you an egg, make an omelet.
