Why Prince Charles Walking Meghan Markle Down The Aisle Is A Big Break In Royal Tradition?
As we learned days before the wedding, Meghan Markle won’t be walked by her father down the aisle, and he will be replaced by Prince Charles.

Due to his poor health, Thomas Markle Sr. was not present at the ceremony. So, Meghan found someone to replace him, and Prince Charles seemed like the perfect candidate.

Prince Charles agreed to take a huge step away from royal tradition and walk his future daughter-in-law down the aisle. To be fair, she actually walked a majority of the way on her own, but Charles joined her on the final steps.

According to etiquette expert, Myka Meier, this is a big violation of the traditional royal rules, as the representative of the groom’s family shouldn’t walk a bride down the aisle. Usually, one of her friends does that, or she can opt to do the whole walk by herself.

Meier says:
Prince Charles is walking Meghan Markle down the aisle is like nothing we’ve ever seen before in a major royal wedding. It is unprecedented and a very kind gesture to show solidarity and great support for the royal couple from the British monarchy and senior royals.
He continues:
By walking Meghan down the aisle, the etiquette and protocol of who walks in and when will change slightly but seamlessly. The ceremony protocol will be reworked and orchestrated so that Prince Charles can then take on his other role as father of the groom and be seated next to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, in the chapel as soon as Meghan is in place for the ceremony.

Here’s what people think about that:
Actually gutted Prince Charles will walk Meghan down the aisle. No offence, but he didn’t raise her & I was looking forward to her mum doing it & a stuffy bit of tradition going out the window. 🙁

Why is news of Prince Charles walking Meghan Markle down the aisle greeted with ‘why isn’t her mother doing it?’ as if he has run in and batted her out of the way.
Maybe she didn’t want that responsibility or attention.
I’m not a Royalist but a nice gesture can just be that.— Julie Owen Moylan (@JulieOwenMoylan) May 18, 2018
If I were Meghan Markle, which I am emphatically not, I would definitely up my game with alternate Aisle Walker. Not, "fine, Charles then, I guess," I’d demand The Rock or RuPaul or Bruce Springsteen.

So Prince Charles is going to walk Meghan down the aisle. Would have been nice for her Mum to do it 🤔

Lovely decision of Meghan’s to have Prince Charles walk her down the aisle. Having two sons it’s probably not something that Charles ever thought he would get to do. Although Meghan obviously wanted her father so she must think very highly of Charles to ask him #RoyalWedding2018

Choice is clear message from royals that Meghan’s definitely ‘in the fold’ after last week’s media circus. Prince Charles used to keeping calm at these events so well placed advice for Meghan. Also takes lots of pressure off Doria, who’s no doubt finding this whole thing surreal!

This is the first time in modern wedding history that a bride was walked down the aisle by a groom’s family member.
