‘What A Slap In The Face’: People Want To Boycott ACM Awards After Reba McEntire Announces Nominees
The country legend Reba McEntire announced the lucky nominees who will fight for the win at 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards. McEntire was bestowed an honor to host the event, which will be the 16th time she will do so.
However, the singer was left disappointed when she announced the list, as well as many country fans around the world.
Why McEntire is not happy?
The leaders in the top categories are Chris Stapleton and Keith Urban. However, there were no female artists nominated for the Entertainer Of The Year.
McEntire noted that there were no women in the category and later commented:
It doesn’t make me very happy because we’ve got some very talented women out there who are working their butts off. I’m missing my girlfriends on this list.
The country superstar was nominated for the Entertainer of the Year not one, not two, but nine times in total and won the award in 1994. Her criticism was supported by social media users who took to Twitter to share their opinion.
What did people say?

Maybe female artists should boycott these award shows until the establishment and men start giving respect towards women. @CountryMusic @ACMawards have led the way in the disrespect. #ACMAwards https://t.co/DCB5EjMeCU

The lack of women in the EOTY catagory every year is disturbing. Country music has lost its way & quite frankly I really don’t care about it as a whole. It has a rich history but the present and future don’t look so good with all the cookie cutter men. #ACMAwards

People’s disapproval is not surprising. There is a common belief that female singers are boxed out of country music. But we still hope that the situation will change one day.
