It’s no secret that dogs provide love, comfort, and partnership to their owners, making them man’s best friends! But what happens when a dog has disabilities? Does it become useless or unwanted? Countless inspirational puppy rescues have proven that animals of all abilities need to be loved and valued.

On top of the most adorable puppy rescue stories list, this unicorn puppy deserves an honorable mention since the canine is not only cute but also special.

Unique unicorn puppy was abandoned in the cold

Are unicorns real? Legend says that a unicorn is a magnificent beast with a single large, and pointed horn projecting from its forehead. While this glorious pup is no beast, it sure has something sprouting from its head in the cutest way possible, a gorgeous little tail!

According to Mac’s Mission, a Missouri based organization that tends to animals with special needs, when the little nugget was found in the streets alongside an older dog, he was lost and hurt in the leg. Upon rescue, the organization realized that the little guy was different since he had a small tail growing from its forehead.

As the rescuers worked to reassure the little guy that they meant no harm, they also wanted to find out why the tail was there and if it had any use.

Another positive discovery was that even though the tail does not wag, it doesn’t slow the Narwhal pup who is as healthy and energetic as any other dog.

So, what did they name him after all this? The staff baptized him, “Narwhal the Little Magical Furry Unicorn.”

As the staff keeps the cute doggo with them for the time being to observe how the unicorn tail develops, many people will surely be hoping to adopt him. The good news is that the lost pup is now safe, happy, and "proof" that unicorns are real!

How you can help shelter dogs without adopting

Rescue organizations play a great role in making the world better for dogs that need help the most but while they are great at what they do, you can still help them even without adopting.

Several ways in which you can make a huge difference for animals in a shelter include:

• Fostering a shelter/rescue animal at home
• Volunteering to help at the shelter
• Donating items to the local shelter
• Providing transport for the animals to or from shelter homes
• Networking shelter pets on social media to connect them with new families.

We can all make a difference in the lives of animals by offering them support in any way we can. As a volunteer, you don’t prove that you have the time, you show that you have the heart to make the world better.
