Mars in opposition
On July 27, Mars will be its closest to Earth in many years. Skywatchers can observe the red planet in detail in the night sky. Sound incredible, doesn’t it?

The phenomenon is called ‘opposition’ because Mars and the sun will be on directly opposite sides of Earth. At this particular moment, the red planet will shine brightly than ever.
This magnificent Mars rising will be visible in the southeastern part of the Earth in the early Friday evening. The spectacular event could be observed with naked eyes, but with a telescope, this space phenomenon will be even more breathtaking.

In 2003, Mars was only 34.6 million miles from Earth. This was the closest the two planets had come to each other in almost 60,000 years.
What should we expect from it?
‘Mars in opposition’ is not dangerous for humans and other living beings. During this mysterious space event, aged people and patients with low blood pressure may only experience headaches and minor ailments.
July 2018 is full of spectacular space events
Mars arrives at opposition on the same day as July’s Blood Moon. It will be visible across much of Europe, Asia, Australia, southern parts of North America, South America, and will last for 103 minutes.
