Every year, The Royal Variety Performance creates an exquisite opportunity for viewers and attendees alike to enjoy the best international and local UK talent at the iconic London Palladium theatre. Since 1912, the event sees comedians, musicians, and other artists take the stage to benefit the Royal Variety Charity, which the Queen is a patron of.

The Royal Variety Performance 2019 was all that and more as the red carpet rolled out to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who had a lovely night enjoying the best entertainment in the UK. However, one star who everyone was looking forward to seeing on the stage never showed up.

Rod Stewart’s concert appearance was cancelled after the rock singer was forced to pull out of the show due to illness.

But what excited fans the most is that UK music legend, Rod Stewart, was set to perform on the show.

In an unfortunate turn of events, Sir Rod Stewart was forced to step down due to a throat infection. In an emotional Instagram post, he explained that despite his preparations, he was sad that he had to cancel last minute.

Due to a throat infection and on strict doctor’s orders I’m absolutely unable to perform… I’m very disappointed that I can’t be there to give my support.

Rightfully, the event missed a great performer but as he would have wanted, the show had to go on. Other artists graced the stage included Robbie Williams, Emeli Sande, and the cast of Mary Poppins.
