Michelle Obama Shares Her Famous Apple Cobbler Recipe For Christmas Dinner



The former US First Lady Michelle Obama says Christmas Eve is her favorite time of the year. She enjoys decorating her home and The White House in the previous years, searching for presents, and cooking her special dessert for the festive dinner.

How Michelle Obama gets ready for Christmas

All members of the Obama family take part in the Christmas celebration, even Barack’s favorite dog Bo. Michelle can’t help admiring how magical their mansion looks like with all these incredible decorations. The Obamas also have a good family tradition of their own. They call it “a family talent show”.

Everyone has to participate, whether it’s singing or reading a poem. The kids usually construct a play of some sort.

When Obama was still a president, they always took part in the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.



Traditionally, Michelle cooks her favorite dessert for the festive Christmas dinner. It’s her special apple cobbler. Michelle says:

I’ve been making this cobbler for a long time, so I usually just eyeball how much needs to go in.


Here is the recipe for traditional dessert from Michelle Obama.

  • 8 apples;
  • 1/2 to 2 cups of brown sugar;
  • 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon;
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg;
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt;
  • 1/4 cup white flour.


  • 3 sheets refrigerated pie crust;
  • 1 stick of butter.

The process:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
  2. To make a dough, you need 1/4 cup of white flour, 1/2 to 2 cups of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Don’t forget to add salt and cinnamon.
  3. Roll out three pie crusts as thin as possible and layer the bottom of the pan with 1/2 of the pie crusts.
  4. Prick a few holes in the crust then pour the apple mixture into the pan and dot 3/4 of a stick of butter around the apples.
  5. Use the remaining pie crusts to cover the apple mixture entirely.
  6. Melt the butter and brush all over the top of the crust.
  7. Reduce the oven temperature to 300 degrees and continue baking for 2.5-3 hours.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes when take from the oven. It’s better to serve the cobbler with ice-cream balls.
