President Donald Trump’s marriage to Melania has made headlines for many reasons. There have been several reports that POTUS considered his First Lady to be a trophy wife.

In his book Fire and Fury" Inside the Trump White House, author Michael Wolff claimed that Donald Trump and his wife didn’t spend a lot of time together before he became president and often went days without seeing each other before he was elected in November 2016.

Wolff, who based his book on over 200 interviews conducted with those who knew the couple very well, said that the president boasted to people that Melania was his "trophy wife."

Melania’s statement

Despite constant reports that the Trumps have an unhappy marriage, neither Melania nor Donald have actually come out to confirm this.

However, a New York Times article reported that in 2005, a newlywed Melania addressed the question that she was with her husband simply for his money.

While speaking to a business class at New York University, a student asked her if she would have gotten married to Donald Trump if he wasn’t rich. Melania reportedly responded:

Her candid response served to fuel the speculations that just as Donald was attracted to her for her beauty, Melania was attracted to his wealth.

Reactions

Following this unearthed response given my Melania, some internet users have dropped commentaries about the couple’s marriage.

A few people implied that this arrangement wasn’t a secret as it was generally assumed that FLOTUS married her husband for the recognition and wealth.

One may also want to consider the possibility that Melania was joking with the response she gave in 2005 considering that the couple is still together after so many years.
