The 35-year-old singer and songwriter, Kelly Clarkson, always was pretty candid about her parenting experience. The American Idol winner is a loving and caring mom to her two kids: three-year-old daughter, River, and one-year-old son, Remington. However, in a recent interview with Radio.com, Clarkson revealed a few controversial details about her parenting style.
"I find nothing wrong with a spanking"
When talking about disciplining her little daughter, River, the singer admitted she was spanking her. Furthermore, Kelly Clarkson does not seem to see anything wrong with this parenting method.
“I’m not above a spanking, which people aren’t necessarily into,” said the musician, “and I don’t mean like hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking.”
It also turned out that Kelly Clarkson was spanked by her parents too when she was a kid.
My parents spanked me, I did fine in life and I feel fine about it.
The singer also explained that she never spanks her kids for no reason or without a warning.
I warn her, I’m like, ‘Hi, I’m gonna spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now’.
However, knowing that many people do not favor such parenting methods, Clarkson admits avoiding spanking her daughter in public.
So that’s a tricky thing when you’re out in public, ’cause then people are like, you know, they think that’s wrong or something, but I find nothing wrong with a spanking.
What does the science say?
According to a recent research, spanking is harmful to kids’ mental health, reports Psychology Today. The scientists discovered that children who get spanked trust their parents less.
Furthermore, spanking increases aggression in all children, no matter what ethnicity they are or what parenting practices are believed to be normal in a particular community or family.
