Who is responsible?
As soon as they became aware of this crime, the authorities of the state of Arizona, USA, started to look for the rapist through DNA analysis conducted on the newborn and all people who could have had access to the victim.
The results of the tests pointed at Nathan Sutherland, one of the male nurses looking after the patient, who was immediately arrested but was later released on bail on a cash-only bond of $500,000.

Sutherland’s defense attorney claims that the suspect is a devoted family man and that there is no direct evidence of his guilt, except for the DNA test.
The condition of the victim
Along with the information about the attacker, new information about the victim has recently become available. Apparently, she wasn’t in a coma as it was originally announced.

Her relatives released a statement clarifying her condition. According to them, the woman has significant intellectual disabilities that impair her ability to move or speak. However, she is conscious and can move her limbs, head, and neck a little. Through her lawyer, the mother explained:
She has feelings, likes to be read to, enjoys soft music and is capable of responding to people she is familiar with, especially family.

This new information has caused even greater indignation, provided that the young woman could have been conscious and totally helpless. This state of vulnerability makes the case all the more serious.

On the flip side, authorities have reported that the baby is in good health and has recently been released from the hospital. Some good news in this outrageous case, wouldn’t you agree?
