It’s Not A Dream: In Late August, Europe Received 15 Inches Of Snow!
Do you miss the winter cold already? Neither do we. So, let’s look at the snow from a safe distance: In late August, snow fell in some mountain regions of Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.
The cyclone brought a cold snap to Central and North-Western Europe, where the air temperature dropped to 59-68 °F (15-20 °C).
Snow is nothing special higher in the mountains – will say anyone who has been to the mountains at least once. But this snowfall is considered anomalous due to the immense amount of precipitation that fell over one night.
In some places, the snow cover reached 12 – 15” (30-40 cm). The tourists vacationing at the Austrian resorts near Salzburg were thrilled, especially those who left their skiing gear at home.
But the locals were the ones truly dumbfounded by this whim of the weather.
A similar situation has developed near the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany (9,718 ft). Special equipment was used to clear the territory.
According to the weather forecast, the winter spell won’t last, and the temperature is soon going back to normal.
