"I Play For Her Tonight": Footballer Chris Smith Braces Himself To Return To Field Days After Losing Beloved Girlfriend In A Car Crash
Petara Cordero, the girlfriend of Browns defensive end Chris Smith was killed in a roadside accident that happened after his car spun out on the highway on the 11th of September.
Cordero was a passenger in Smith’s Lamborghini, which had a tire malfunction and he struck the median wall. After Cordero exited the vehicle and was then struck by an oncoming vehicle.
After an incredibly difficult week, Chris Smith took the field in honor of his late girlfriend.
The man is a real fighter!
Smith announced his decision to play in the Browns’ Week 2 primetime game against the New York Jets seven hours before kickoff, explaining his reasoning in a statement.
“I am going to play tonight because it is something she would want me to do,”
– Smith said.
“She would want me to keep doing what I love and stay strong. I play for her tonight. She is my why.”
