Comedy Legend's Beginning: Jim Carrey Was A Major Cutie In His Younger Years And Just As Hilarious As We Know Him
Jim Carrey is one of the most hilarious and revolutionary actors of all time. His breakout role in The Mask (1994) introduced Carrey’s unique charisma and blew audiences away for the remainder of the 90s.
At the time Jim’s career took off, he was 33 years old, before that, he only had some small roles in unknown movies, so we completely missed his younger years! Curious how the legendary comedian looked before fame? Let’s walk down the memory lane.
How did Jim Carrey look when he was young?
Jim Carrey grew up in Canada and was the youngest of four in his family. His mom was a homemaker and his father primarily worked as an accountant, but worked part-time as a musician.
Little Jim fell in love with comedy from the young age and spent most of his time watching The Carol Burnett Show and the Monty Python crew.
Carrey had a knack for impressions, so his highly expressive face came in handy. He’s still regarded as one of the best impressionists of all time.
Before finding fame in Hollywood, Carrey’s biggest passion was stand-up comedy, and he was very good at it. However, his comedy chops weren’t enough when he auditioned for Saturday Night Live in 1980.
Jim was 18 at the time of his SNL audition, so we’re guessing he just needed more practice.
From 1990 to 1994, Carrey lent his talents to a popular sketch show, and SNL’s competitor, In Living Color. Jim left the show after The Mask became a huge hit and he decided to fully give himself to films. And the rest is history!
We talked a lot about Carrey’s stand-up career, but why not check out one of his first ever shows?
