It says that eyes are the window into a person’s soul, but can they also be the window into a person’s personality? Some studies suggested so.

Researchers from the University of Queensland and the University of New South Wales have found that eye color could be an indicator of how agreeable an individual is. They conceded that Northern Europeans with lighter-colored eyes happened to be less agreeable, egocentric, and more competitive with their peers than people with darker eyes.

Another study conducted by scientists at Orebro University in Sweden has found that the patterns in the iris can indicate whether we are warm and trusting, or neurotic and impulsive. So, what is your personality according to your eye color?

Dark-brown eyes

People with dark brown eye color, which almost always seems like the black one, have the rarest color. Such people are natural-born leaders and they are generally an agreeable type.

Additionally, Individuals with darker-colored eyes are better at sports, which require hitting targets, e.g., tennis. Melanin operates as an insulator for connections between brain cells. The more melanin, the quicker the brain reacts.

Brown eyes

This eye color is the most common in the entire world. According to The Charles University in Prague, people with brown eyes tend to be loyal, trustworthy, gentle, and respectful, but definitely not submissive.

Blue eyes

A long time ago, it was said that blue eye color had appeared due to mutation as all people had brown eyes in the past. The best traits that describe people with such color are inner and physical strength but people often don’t see it.

Instead, society sees people with blue eyes untrustworthy, shy, or even weaker than they actually are. Researchers reported that many people perceive individuals with blue eyes as being "competitive" and even "egotistical."

Just like the dark-brown eyes, grey is also a rare type. Having dark grey eyes means a person is a very well-balanced person or has a "two-sided coin." Depending on who needs what, they can be different things to different people.

Having light grey eyes implies an individual might have had to work a little harder in life to get to where he/she wanted to be. It takes a while to break through one’s wary shell, but such people care immensely for those who can burst through.

Such eye color is uncommon, and those with this shade are often told that they are unique from a young age. People with hazel eyes are hard to read. This eye color varies from person to person, as does the amount of melanin in the eyes. So it is difficult to pin down a personality type. However, one common thing is that they have a balanced personality and they never jump to extremes.

Most people see such individuals as mysterious and alluring. Those with green eyes have a balance of melanin, which makes them agreeable yet dominant (like those with brown eyes), and also strong yet cautious (like those with blue eyes).

People with green eyes have an air of mystery and a quiet self-sufficiency. They are often unpredictable, original, creative, and perform well under great pressure.

Bonus fact for those women who own light-colored eyes: University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has discovered that females with lighter-colored eyes seem to tolerate pain better during childbirth than those with darker eyes. In the study, women with lighter eyes achieved greater reductions in postpartum anxiety, depression, and catastrophizing/rumination than those who have darker eyes.
