Even with Roseanne Barr looking more stylish and John Goodman slimmer, the heart of the TV show that first aired back in 1988 is still staying the same.

The blue-collar Conner family, barely having enough money to survive in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois, will be back on our screens on Tuesday, March 27th. The original cast – Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky) will reunite in new episodes.

This time around, the show will kick off with Barr’s character being a hard Donald Trump supporter, to the dismay of her sister. The political becomes personal when the family is still recovering from the 2016 elections, and the personal fights become political, too.

The sisterly love relieves the tension as may have happened in many families in the divided nation.

During the Q&A in January, Barr avoided the question whether her own political views got reflected in her character as she is a Trump supported herself. She first redirected the question to the producer of the TV series but then dived in herself, saying:

I have always attempted to portray a realistic portrait of the American people and of working-class people. … And, in fact, it was working-class people who elected Trump. So I felt that was very real, and something that needed to be discussed.

She proceeded to add she doesn’t agree with everything president Trump does or says.

Many have been questioning the return of John Goodman as his character died from a heart attack in the original series. But his return will be explained in the first episode. Goodman commented that it was “a clever way to do it.”

The revival will consist of nine episodes, but if it becomes popular, it might be extended for another season.

The original “Roseanne” was named the most watched American TV show from 1989 to 1990, which set the bar high for the reboot.
