After Decades Of Silence, Macaulay Culkin Says He Suffered From An Abusive Father: "He Was A Bad Man"
In the 1990s, he was the young prodigy in Hollywood and lent his angelic face and talent to several very successful films, such as Home Alone (1990), My Girl (1991), and Ri¢hie Ri¢h (1994). The promising future of Macaulay Culkin in the entertainment world was almost an absolute certainty. Almost.
By the time he was a teenager, the actor voluntarily walked away from the movie industry while his parents fought a heavy legal battle to decide who would be in control of his $17 million-dollar fortune.
In the end, Macaulay did what was best for himself and gained the right to manage his own money. After years of polemics, speculation, and, unfortunately, even getting involved with drugs (he was arrested for possession of illicit substances in 2004), the young man seems to have finally found his place in the world.
As he has somewhat recovered from past experiences, he has recently opened up about his relationship with his family, especially with his father, Kit Culkin.
"He was a bad, abusive man, both physically and mentally. I can show you my scars in case you want to see it," he confessed in an interview to Marc Maron’s WTF podcast.
Macaulay said he even believed his father, who was an amateur actor, envied his success and was unable to accept the fact that his son had achieved everything he had ever wanted for himself at such a young age, ten years old.
"He said, Do it right or I’ll beat you up." Whatever he tried to do in his life, I did better and before turning 10. I danced better than him and was a better actor than him," he explained.
The actor has not talked to his father for years. It is quite understandable, in a way, why he was traumatized and wanted to walk away from Hollywood in his teenage years, isn’t it?
