93-Year-Old Italian Grandma Went To Kenya To Volunteer At An Orphanage
Elisa Coltro has someone impressive in her life to look up to. Her grandma, Irma, decided to do something brave and awe-worthy at 93 years old. She booked a ticket to Kenya to volunteer at an orphanage. Proud Elisa shared her Nonna’s story on Facebook, which made her an overnight success. She wrote:
This is my grandma Irma, a young lady of 93, who set off for Kenya tonight. Not to some tourist resort to be waited on hand and foot, but to go to a village of children, in an orphanage. I’m showing her to you because I believe that all of us should always keep a dash of recklessness in order to live and not just survive. Look at her… Who’s stopping her? I love her.
Grandma Irma, who lives in Noventa Vicentina in Veneto, Italy, has embarked on an exciting adventure with her daughter, Elisa’s mother.
My mother sent me the photos from the airport and seeing my grandma, red suitcase and cane in hand, I felt so proud that I wrote the post.
As it turned out, it was Irma’s desire to go to Kenya, where an orphanage founded by an Italian missionary from grandma’s area is situated. Irma has been making donations to it for a long time, but this year, she decided that ‘donations weren’t enough, she wanted to make herself useful’.
She said to my mother: ‘Let’s go to Kenya. Or rather, I’m going and if you want you’re welcome to come too.’
Mother-daughter duo is supposed to stay in Kenya for three weeks. Coltro jokes that her grandma might decide to stay and not come back at all.
